No Artificial Colours: Another ALDI First
At ALDI, we’re constantly reviewing our product range to improve nutritional content. We’ve worked closely with our suppliers and can proudly say that all of our branded food items and exclusive brand lines are now completely free of artificial food colours. At the end of the day, you have peace of mind knowing that natural colour alternatives are used, not artificial nasties. This change doesn’t compromise taste, high quality, nor will you have to pay more as a result of our intitiative.
ALDI initiated the reformulation following a study by researchers at the University of Southampton which demonstrated increased levels of hyperactivity in young children consuming some artificial food colours.
The six artificial food colours highlighted in the University of Southampton study, which have been removed from ALDI’s exclusive branded food products, are:
- 102 Tartrazine
- 104 Quinoline Yellow
- 110 Sunset Yellow
- 122 Carmoisine
- 124 Ponceau
- 129 Allura Red
In addition, we removed the following eight artificial food colours used in Australian food manufacturing:
- 123 Amaranth Purple
- 127 Erythrosine Cherry Red
- 132 Indigo Blue
- 133 Brilliant Blue
- 142 Green
- 143 Green
- 151 Black
- 155 Brown
These are just a couple of the many initiatives we have underway to ensure the highest quality of our products.
