What products are there restrictions on?
As of Tuesday 26 May 2020, the majority of purchase limits were lifted. Face masks are currently limited to 2 packs per customer in our Victorian stores.
Is COVID-19 impacting the amount of Special Buys each store receives?
Our Special Buys teams alongside Logistics and Stores are working hard to ensure that some of the products that were put into storage during the peak of COVID-19 in April are being delivered back into stores as soon as possible. Our global supply chain has suffered a hit due to COVID-19 and we are working on ensuring availability returns to normal as soon as possible.
Will you be stopping Special Buys in hot spot suburbs?
To ensure that we are encouraging our customers to follow the Victorian State Government’s Stage 4 restriction that only one person per household can leave home to get necessary goods and services, we have removed Special Buys™ items from Victorian metro stores in Stage 4 lockdown that require two people to safely lift and purchase the product.

We apologise for any disappointment this might cause our Victorian customers. We look forward to bringing these products back on sale for Victorian customers at a later date.
Does ALDI sell face masks and how much are they?
Our stores are currently selling packs of 50 face masks for $29.99. Customers in VIC will be able to purchase a maximum of two packs per person, to ensure a fair distribution of product.
Is it true that you are limiting the numbers of customers in stores?
We have limited the number of customers allowed in store at any one time. This is so that when you enter, you can have a safe and calm shop. Please consider letting those less able or requiring special assistance to the front. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
What are you doing to encourage social distancing and hygiene in your stores?
We have implemented a series of measures for the safety of our store employees and our customers. This includes PPE for all employees, 1.5 metre floor markers, clear screens at the registers and restricted customer limits in all stores. We also encourage customers to use contactless payment where possible.
What are you doing to encourage social distancing around the Special Buys area?
Occasionally, heightened anticipation for a particular product has attracted more customers at once than usual, resulting in large lines. We ask our customers to remember to keep at least 1.5 metres apart from each other at all times, both in and outside of our stores.
I haven’t seen your employees wearing any PPE, how are you protecting them?
ALDI Australia supports all safely measures recommended by State and Federal Governments, including the mandatory use of masks in public for all Victorians. For the safety of our employees and the community, we have provided face masks for all employees working in our stores. Washing hands regularly or using hand sanitiser will also offer more protection against COVID-19 than wearing gloves. However, we have made them available for those team members that wish to use them.
The wellbeing of our team members and customers is our priority, and we have taken extra measures to protect them. This includes:
- Perspex barriers at the register
- Increased social distancing communications in store
- Increased cleaning routines
- Delivery of more cleaning supplies and hygiene products for our store employees
Do I have to wear a mask to shop at ALDI in Victoria?
ALDI Australia supports all safely measures recommended by State and Federal Governments, including the mandatory use of masks in public for all Victorians. For the safety of our employees and the community, customers must follow Government mandates and wear a face covering when entering our Victorian stores, unless there is a lawful reason for not doing so. We have provided face masks for all employees working in our stores. Considering there may be members of the public that have a lawful exception for not wearing a face covering, we will not ask our employees to put their safety at risk by policing customers who do not wear masks in our stores. It is our genuine hope that all customers do the right thing. As with any situation in which we believe someone is flouting the law, we will contact the police.
Do I have to wear a mask to shop at ALDI in NSW?
ALDI Australia supports all safety measures recommended by State and Federal Governments. The advice from the NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant specifically recommends: the use of face masks in indoor settings where physical distancing is hard to maintain, such as on public transport or in supermarkets.
As Dr Chant notes, wearing a mask in any of these settings is not mandatory but is highly recommended, especially in areas where there has been community transmission.
As such, we support and encourage our customers and our employees to wear a face mask in our stores. We want to reiterate that the wearing of face masks in our NSW stores is not mandatory and we urge all customers to be compassionate to our store employees and one another in their choices.
Will ALDI get trolley wipes?
We have rolled out trolley wipe dispensers in our trolley bays. We encourage all customers to practice good hand hygiene before entering our stores. If the dispenser is running low or empty at your local ALDI we encourage you to let our employees know and they will replenish.
Will ALDI offer online shopping?
We don’t currently offer online shopping or home delivery although we understand this is something our customers are interested in more than ever. Right now, we are focused on ensuring we maintain good stock levels in stores.
Will ALDI remove the surcharge so more people can opt to PayWave and limit potential contamination?
We understand the growing preference to use PayWave. However PayWave transactions attract some merchant fees, which is why they incur a 0.5% surcharge when used at ALDI. We prefer to give you the choice rather than inflate our prices to factor in the cost of the surcharge. To avoid the surcharge please insert your credit card or debit card into the EFTPOS machine and practice good hand hygiene before and after use.
Is ALDI planning to support any charities, especially given your record sales over the last few days?
Nationally, we support some incredible charities, including Foodbank, and Oz Harvest. Our support for these charities and others will continue and we’re always considering news ways we can help good causes that matter to our customers.
