Meet the Mulligans

For more than 20 years, the Mulligans have been proudly supplying fresh Aussie lamb to ALDI through their long-time partners at Thomas Foods. But this story starts on a family farm near Walcha in New England, NSW – Salway – where the Mulligan family has been raising lambs for over 45 years.

These farmers aren’t just running a business, they’re running a legacy. Mum and Dad started it, the kids are growing up in it, and the whole family is focused on keeping the land thriving for generations to come.

What makes Salway special?

  • Prime pasture: Cool climate, rich basalt soils, and plenty of rainfall - basically a lamb paradise.

  • Smart farming: From high-tech software that tracks grazing, to six-way drafting yards that sort sheep like VIPs at the door, Salway mixes tradition with innovation.

Lamb that locals love

Salway lamb has made its way onto Aussie dinner tables thanks to their partnership with ALDI. The farmers reckon nothing beats a Sunday roast, though these days the kids demolish every last bite - so no more cold lamb sandwiches on Monday.

The heart of it all

Despite the tech and growth, it always comes back to family, good food, and caring for the land. “People think farmers just flog the ground to get more out of it,” the Salway team says. “That couldn’t be further from the truth. Looking after the land is our top priority - it’s the only way the next generation will get to enjoy this life too.”

So next time you’re tucking into a lamb roast or firing up a BBQ, there’s a good chance it came from Salway - a little family farm with a big heart (and no leftovers).
