Crispy Apple Sheet Tart Recipe

How to make a Crispy Apple Sheet Tart

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (or 180°C fan-forced).
  2. Place the puff pastry onto a large tray lined with baking paper. Prick the puff pastry all over with a fork, leaving a border approximately 2cm wide, to prevent excessive puffing during baking.
  3. Wash and thinly slice KANZI® apple lengthwise, with core intact (seeds removed). Arrange the apple slices on the puff pastry, leaving a border (but don’t worry about overlapping too much).
  4. Gently press the apple slices in and sprinkle each slice with brown sugar.
  5. Lightly beat the egg with the water, then brush it over the puff pastry edge. Generously sprinkle edges with caster sugar and dust the entire tart with cinnamon.
  6. Bake the tart in the oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the apples and sugar have caramelised (check from the 15 minute mark to ensure edges are not browning too quickly – if this is the case, move to a lower oven rack).
  7. Drizzle cooked tart with honey and dust with icing mixture. Slice and serve immediately.

*Optional: You can also substitute the caster sugar with demerara or even raw sugar if preferred.
