Fresh Aussie Avocados

Avo go at these.

You either love them or really love them. Fresh Aussie Hass avos are now in season and ready to go at ALDI. Shepard avos will be back in season around February next year.

Where do our avocados come from?

Don’t be fooled by our low prices. We get our delicious, high quality avos from the same places as other supermarkets. Like Atherton Tablelands, Queensland; Fishermans Reach, New South Wales and Renmark in South Australia.

Meet our avocado farmers.

If anyone knows how to grow great avos, it’s the Costa team. We’ve sourced premium Lovacado™ Hass and Shepards from them since 2013. Their Lovacado™ avos are grown in farms all across Australia. From Queensland’s Childers and Atherton regions, to Fishermans Reach on the New South Wales coast and to Riverland in South Australia. This means less travel time from farms to our stores, and that means fresher avos for all. Costa grows, sources, ripens and sells avocados in one national supply chain, giving them more control of the avo’s quality. It’s a win for them and a win for us.

Choose your avocado.

Hass avos change from green to deep purple when ripe. To double check yours is ready to go, gently squeeze the stem. When ripe, they should feel slightly soft but not mushy.

Shepards don’t change colour at all as they ripen. To make sure you don’t slice yours up too soon, gently squeeze the stem. If it gives a little, you’re set.

Store your avocados.

If your avo is soft, eat it within a day. If it’s still firm, store on your benchtop for 1-2 days. Once ripe, avos can be stored in the fridge to keep them good for longer. The cold slows down the ripening process but won’t stop it entirely, so try not to forget about them.

Need an avocado ASAP?

Speed up the ripening process by placing your unripe avocado in a brown paper bag with a ripe banana at room temperature. We’re not pulling your leg, it really works. Bananas have a natural plant hormone called ethylene which triggers ripening in fruit.

Guess whose greener?

Unlike Hass avocados, Shepard’s flesh doesn’t brown after cutting. This makes Shepard avocados a great choice for salads and sangas. Mmm…sangas!
