Our fresh Aussie Carrot migration

Dig into our 100% Aussie grown carrots.

Love Aussie carrots? You’ve come to the right place. Our Aussie first supplier policy keeps us committed to sourcing our produce from local farmers, whenever we can. That’s why 97% of all our fresh produce is Australian grown (and delicious).

Here’s some interesting carrot facts to nibble on:

Where do they come from?

Fresh carrots migrate in schools, like fish. Just kidding, carrots can’t swim. But they do come from all over Australia. In South Australia, they’re from the Mallee region. In Queensland they’re from the Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Darling Downs and Southern Downs. Basically wherever there’s rich, fertile soil with the right climate.

Meet the Moffatts.

If anyone knows the key to growing fresh produce, it’s the Moffatt family, with their rich, 100 year farming history. With farms located just one hour south-west of Brisbane in the Scenic Rim, rich soils and reliable water sources allow them to grow produce with minimal input. Having supplied fresh produce to ALDI since we first opened our doors in Australia, the Moffatts now supply us with close to 8 million kilograms of carrots, onions, celery and pumpkin a year! In order to meet this high demand, produce is farmed in diverse growing regions depending on the season.

Throughout Steve Moffatt’s farming life, he has had to deal with flood, drought, bushfire and other adversities resulting in loss of crop. The one thing that has always stuck with him is the support of ALDI and its customers through trying times.

“They say as farmers, we are resilient, but we are only that because of the many millions of people who continue to support us by buying and eating our produce every day throughout the nation and the world. That is teamwork! Thanks everyone!”

When can I get them?

Fresh carrots are available all year round. Lucky you! Cook them in a hearty winter soup.
Or blend them into a fresh juice on your next summer health kick.

Choosing your carrot.

Look for carrots with a nice, smooth texture and bright orange colour.

What to do with them?

What can’t you do with a carrot? Cut them into sticks for a lunchbox snack or enjoy with dips, as a healthy alternative to crackers. Roast them in the oven to bring out their sweet, distinct flavour.

Do carrots help you see in the dark?

We wish. This myth originated from WWII press, claiming that British pilots were eating lots of carrots to give them excellent night vision.
