How to pick the best kale?

Choose a kale bunch with vivid, green curly leaves.

How to cook kale

There’s more to kale than salads. Kale is great blended into smoothies, baked into crispy ‘chips’ or even fried with olive oil as a quick, delish side dish.

How do I keep kale fresh?

To keep your kale fresh, refrigerate in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer.

Can you eat raw kale?

Good news – kale is safe and delicious to eat as is! Ways to enjoy raw kale include shredding it and using it in salads or slaws, or simply marinating it in olive oil as a healthy green side.

Can you eat kale stalks?

Don’t toss those stalks! Kale stalks are just as good for you as the leaves – they just need a little extra time and care. Sauté your kale stalks by chopping them up small and adding them to the pan first, then once they’re translucent, add your leaves to the pan. Or, for salads, slice up your kale stalks into thin threads or use a mandolin slicer to add an element of crunch.

How to make kale chips

Don’t know what to do with your leftover kale? Whip up some simple and delicious kale chips. All it takes is kale, olive oil and seasoning.
1.    First, remove the leaves from the stem into bite sized pieces. Be sure to cut up your kale stem as well to make sure nothing gets wasted!
2.    Lay your kale leaves out on a baking sheet, drizzle with oil and then season with salt, pepper and any other desired seasonings.
3.    Cook your kale chips in the oven for 20-30 minutes or until the edges are brown but not burnt.

Can you freeze kale?

Frozen kale, just like spinach, is a great item to have in the freezer to add a healthy green hit to curries and soups. To freeze your kale, remove the leaves from the stem, blanch for 2-3 minutes, remove from the boiling water, pat dry, and store in airtight zip lock bags. Your frozen kale should last up to a year stored in the freezer.
