Natural Dyed Easter Eggs Recipe
How to make Natural Dyed Easter Eggs
Method
1. Bring a pot of water to boil. Add the eggs carefully to the water. Cook eggs for 8 minutes. Remove the eggs and allow to cool completely.
2. To make your desired egg colour…
Yellow:
- 2 tablespoons ground turmeric with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- Strain and cool completely in a smaller container. Add vinegar and submerge 3 eggs. Allow the eggs to soak overnight in the fridge.
Blue:
- Slice red cabbage and place into a pot with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 20 minutes.
- Strain and cool completely in a smaller container. Add vinegar and submerge 3 eggs. Allow the eggs to soak overnight in the fridge.
Red:
- Dice beetroot and place in a pot with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- Strain and cool completely in a smaller container. Add vinegar and submerge.
3. Optionally, dip again. If you want to get a darker hue or to create another colour, repeat the above process.
4. Place several layers of paper towel on a tray. Remove the eggs out of the dye and place them on the towel. Let them air dry (don’t rub them).
5. Once completely dry, you can gently rub them with vegetable oil to help prevent the colour from changing and to make them shiny.
Tip: Best made the day before Easter, to keep the colour fresh.
Optional: For a more vibrant colour, peel the cooked and cooled eggs, then dip into vegetable dye.
