How to Make Sausage Mummies


  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (or 180°C for fan-forced ovens). Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Cut the frankfurts in half and set aside. Use a small, sharp knife to cut the pastry into 5mm wide and 10mm wide strips. Wrap 2-3 pastry strips around each frankfurt to resemble bandages, leaving a little gap at one end for the face. Trim and discard excess pastry.
  3. Place on the lined tray. Repeat with remaining frankfurts and pastry. Beat egg in small dish and brush egg wash over the tops of the pastry, for each sausage mummy.
  4. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until pastry is golden and crisp. Place on a serving platter, serve with mustard and tomato sauce.

*Tip: Alternatively, use a small, round cutter to cut eyes out of some white cheese slices and stick a piece of black olive in the centre for the pupil.
