- Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced). Sift the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl and, using your fingertips, run the butter in through the dry ingredients until the texture resembles coarse sand.
- Stir in the grated cheese and chives. Season well and slowly add the milk. Using a butter knife, combine the dough mixture and bring ingredients together. Use the knife to mix it into a rough ball.
- Place dough onto a well-floured work surface and gently press the dough together with your hands. Flatten it into a rough 18cm circle.
- Cut into 6 wedges and place them on a baking paper-lined oven sheet. Brush with milk and bake for 17 minutes or until risen and golden.
Tip: Both the soup and scones can be prepared ahead and reheated to serve.
