How to make Cheddar and Chive Scones


These savoury scones go very well with our Roasted Mushroom Soup. See our recipe here.

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced). Sift the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl and, using your fingertips, run the butter in through the dry ingredients until the texture resembles coarse sand.
  2. Stir in the grated cheese and chives. Season well and slowly add the milk. Using a butter knife, combine the dough mixture and bring ingredients together. Use the knife to mix it into a rough ball.
  3. Place dough onto a well-floured work surface and gently press the dough together with your hands. Flatten it into a rough 18cm circle.
  4. Cut into 6 wedges and place them on a baking paper-lined oven sheet. Brush with milk and bake for 17 minutes or until risen and golden.

Tip: Both the soup and scones can be prepared ahead and reheated to serve.
