COVID-19: An Important Update For Our Shoppers

New Trading Hours (temporary)

From Monday, 6th April
To provide you with greater access to groceries, we will be temporarily changing our trading hours to 8:30am - 7:00pm, unless other state and local trading restrictions apply.

Closed for Good Friday & Easter Sunday
We will also be closed on Good Friday (10 April) and Easter Sunday (12 April) to give our team members a well-deserved break.

Our employees, Australian business partners and transport operators have been working incredibly hard to deliver more products than ever into stores each day. To allow them time to stock shelves and perform a thorough clean of the store for the next day, we have decided to temporarily change our trading hours. We want to let you know that there is more than enough food to go around; we just need your patience and support. We will continue to re-evaluate these hours on a weekly basis and communicate the decision to either uphold these hours or return to normal trading hours. We appreciate that these new times may be an inconvenience and we thank you in advance for your understanding.

Special Buys™ Stock Availability

As we face the changing circumstances related to COVID-19, we’d like to update you on the steps we are taking as a business to ensure that you have access to fresh food, hygiene products and essential items. We are working around the clock with our Australian partners to distribute products to our stores. As demand remains ongoing, we have introduced further restrictions on the following product categories.

Product limits are based on categories, regardless of the brand, weight or variety. For example, sugar = all types of sugar. 

To be able to provide Australians access to the essential products they need, we have decided to temporarily restrict purchases on the following products from 3 April 2020:

1 unit purchase limit:

  • All varieties of toilet paper

2 unit purchase limit:

  • Paper towel
  • Tissues
  • Dry pasta
  • Flour
  • Dry rice
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Eggs
  • Liquid soap

6 unit purchase limit:

  • Microwave rice
  • UHT long life milk
  • Sugar

10 unit purchase limit:

  • Canned food items total


In order to ensure product availability for all customers, we have implemented the following alcohol restrictions. Customers can buy from up to two different categories. Limits apply per customer, per day.


  • Cases of beer - 2 units*
  • Cases of cider - 2 units*
  • Cases of pre-mixed spirits (RTD) - 2 units*
  • Bottles of wine - 12 units (or 2 x 6pk cases)
  • Casks of wine - 2 units (not to exceed 10L in total)
  • Spirits - 2 units (not to exceed 2L in total)


  • Cases of beer - 1 unit*
  • Cases of cider - 1 unit*
  • Cases of pre-mixed spirits (RTD) - 1 unit*
  • Bottles of wine - 3 units
  • Fortified wine - 1 litre
  • Spirits - 1 litre

Social Distancing Measures

For the safety of our store employees and our customers, we are implementing a series of measures to encourage social distancing. Our stores now have 1.5 metre social distancing floor markers at our checkouts and security guards will enforce customer flows, such as limiting the number of shoppers in our stores. Please consider letting those less able or requiring special assistance to the front.

To protect our employees, we are currently in the process of installing clear screens at each store register. We also encourage customers to use contactless payment where possible. 

We will continue to monitor the situation and will modify our operations as necessary. We thank our shoppers for their patience and cooperation.

To discourage over-purchasing we will be temporarily suspending our change-of-mind refund policy. If you have already purchased additional items you no longer want, please look at donating them to community organisations or neighbours who have been struggling to purchase them during this time.

From the 17 March 2020, until further notice, we will not provide a refund where you have changed your mind about products purchased from ALDI in the following categories:

  • Toilet paper
  • Tissues and serviettes
  • Paper towels
  • Nappies and baby wipes
  • Feminine hygiene and incontinence products
  • Hand sanitisers
  • Cleaning products (including antibacterial wipes)
  • Canned food (including fish, fruit, vegetables and soup)
  • Pasta and pasta sauces
  • Rice and rice meals
  • Cooking oils and vinegars
  • Flour

Food and Grocery Relief for the Elderly and Vulnerable

Elderly or vulnerable people in the community who are unable to access supermarkets, can get in touch with local charities in their area for assistance. To locate a charity in your area that can provide food and grocery relief, please visit or Please note, Foodbank does not supply food and groceries direct to the general public, but provides food and grocery relief to 2,400 charity agencies across Australia.

Together with our store employees we’ve agreed on new conditions of entry to our stores:  

  1. Respect our employees and their physical space
  2. Respect each other and look out for those less able
  3. Practise good hygiene in our stores
  4. Do not attempt to ‘game’ our product restriction policies
  5. We remind you that we will not accept any violent behaviour (verbal or physical) in or around our stores and the police will be called immediately if required
  6. Be kind, be calm, be empathetic and most of all be courteous
  7. And please, do one nice thing for someone else when you leave our store today

In return, we are supporting our 13,000 employees across the country and implementing the necessary hygiene procedures to ensure you can shop with confidence.

We’re constantly monitoring the situation and will do our best to keep all products available to everyone. However, if we see new shortages, we may introduce other limits. We’ll only do this if we think it’s absolutely necessary and we’ll keep you updated in our stores and on our website as things change. This is unchartered territory for many of us, so please remember to be kind, be calm, be empathetic and most of all be courteous.
